Lowpriced bluetooth with wired mic and earplug [Posted on 2008-01-30] I saw this on amazon and just had to see what it was for so cheap a price. I personally hate those all-in-one earsets, they make you look like somebody out of star trek with the blinking light on your ear all the time. I haven't heard anyone say that bluetooth can cause brain cancer like was being said about cell phones a few years ago but then again why take the chance? This little headset puts the electronics someplace else besides next to your skull. I do a lot of historical reenactment. I'd never think of wearing an all in one headset with a costume but this could easily be clipped out of sight and the wire for the earpiece and mic hidden in my hair. The headset and microphone just plug into the unit with a standard micro plug which makes me wonder if any wired headset/mic will work with it? I'll give that a try and see what happens when I have a chance, I have a couple of old cell phone wired headsets laying around to try. This uses bluetooth 1.1 which is a fairly old standard and should mean it will work right with just about any device you could lay your hands on, of course it also means it doesn't have any fancy noise discrimination etc. like some of the newer ones have. I had a plantronics voyager which is still a pretty expensive headset, it was either stolen or is on the floor of my car someplace. This unit if it gets lost was cheap, I won't cry so hard if something happens to it. The only thing they could have done differently here was with the charger, if this used usb to charge then I'd think it's perfect, but no, one more charger to keep track of now. I think it's worth the money and the sound is nice and clear and it paired up right away no hassles with my tmobile mda pda phone (and I understand the bluetooth on some pda phones is problematic with some headsets, I know I tried a motorola hands free for the car on it recently and it wouldn't stay paired). For what this unit costs you can't go wrong, if you don't want to spring 90-100 bucks for a good headset for the kids you can't go wrong with this. It's worth the money don't think I'd pay much more for it.
