Good, solid phone [Posted on 2007-11-20] Well, I just got this phone today and have gone through just about everything, made some calls, sent some texts and it seems like a very sturdy phone (which it's supposed to be). I should preface by saying I have verizon service, so where I am the signal strength is great. The call quality is good, I like the displays--Menus are easy to navigate and are the same as on my past phone, the Razor. It is a larger phone, but honestly not too much larger than most clamshell designs. What makes it appear bigger are the antenna sticking out and the protective guard. I don't care so much about size, I just wanted a nice, functional, durable phone and that's what I got. No bluetooth, but I don't need that anyways. Not many ringtones, wallpapers, but really don't care. Camera seems fine, with flash but I don't take many pictures with my phone. Overall, just a meat and potatoes type phone for somebody who wants great functionality and durability.
Functional Phone [Posted on 2007-11-25] A cellphone for an active blue-collar guy like me must be, first and foremost, functional. It can't be fragile or too small. I was initially excited to hear about the features of the G'zOne and its practicality. However, I'm disappointed in the phone's multi-functional navigational keys and alphanumeric keypad. The buttons should be more pronounced or raised to accomodate the thicker fingertips of a man's hand. It has been a nuisance hitting the wrong button each time. In addition, I prefer a phone that has a 24-hour digital clock as opposed to a AM/PM one.
Literally the best phone EVER! If you broke your previous one, that is . . . [Posted on 2008-03-06] I had the Razor from Motorola. After only a few months, the buttons started to slow down their responsiveness and then one day, I accidentally broke it. As it turns out, breaking my last phone was the best thing to happen to me (especially because razors suck) because the Casio G'z One is just beyond my expectations.
To be honest, I've already been spoiled with more advanced cell phones in Japan, but that's why I know for a fact that this phone is one of the very few (including the iPhone) in the North American market that actually can compete in superiority to Japanese phones (trust me, Japanese phones are hot . . . I mean they had one-on-one video confference capabilities on their phones for more than five years now. Oh yeah, and received calls are always free).
Anyway, this phone is absolutely the best. I don't need to mention that not only is it shock resistant, but also water resistant. That doesn't mean it's water-proof, but it adds a whole new feeling of security when handling this phone in the rain.
Another thing I really need to emphasize is the brightness of the LED on the front of the camera. It is extremely bright, so much so that it's just as useful as a flashlight and it has saved me so many times at this point. You can close the camera but still use the LED in the front (which is right beside the camera lense) so it really comes in handy whereever whenever you need light.
And last but not least, the color LCD screen. The picture quality is superb, which is something that I haven't seen other makers beat yet (except for the iPhone, of course). Well, that's 'cause Casio's a Japanese company. Go figure.
The only thing that sucks is that at the time it cost me 299 dollars to buy this thing (just before the iPhone came out). But, I have to say it was worth it; my G'z One is working just as well as it did when I first bought it, and I ain't lying.
Just beware of the bulkiness. I have to use an external cell-phone holder to carry this around.
A phone built like a TRUCK [Posted on 2008-11-06] Yep, it's big, it's ugly, and you can't kill it! Like some others here, I am also a firefighter, and I ride horses. The phone I had before this got turned in 5 times on warranty in six months...apparently you were not supposed to actually USE that one. After sending Verizon a three page letter on why they were missing a huge market share by only having phones built for desk jockeys, this was their answer. GOOD answer!!
I have dropped it running for the truck, sent it skittering 45 feet over concrete, covered it in mud and ashes, forgot it in the pocket of my turnout gear during a structure fire, and once accidentally left it in a snowbank for two hours. Now THAT'S a phone!!
I love the size - I'm of a firm belief that you should not mistake your phone for a chiclet. I love the volume - it's stand next to a running diesel, wake you from a dead sleep, wake the dead in the next county when you need an alarm clock loud!!
Unlike others here I have managed to scar the finish...(what can I say, I'm talented) but nothing that causes the phone to be unusable. I don't really care if it's pretty. The front bezel protected the window beautifully...it's still readable. This phone is designed to be used and abused. Perfect for people who work and play hard, and want a phone - not a pea sized laptop. Verizon service also insures that you have bars in some of the weirdest places!
Buttons on the side create - what were they thinking? [Posted on 2008-11-19] I like this phone for durability BUT I have yet to take this phone out (or put it back) in the hip pouch without pushing the buttons on the side. Now I'm broadcasting b/c I hit the speaker button. Then putting it away or taking it out I hit the buttons a few more times and I turn the ringer off/down/mute whatever and now I miss calls. I have yet to pick up this phone without screwing up settings - The buttons on the side S#@K - what were they thinking - didn't they test button placement b4 production? The store rep said - oh, why don't you just lock yourself out so you can not make changes - well great now I have to unlock the friggin phone b4 I can answer the call or make one - Now I know why the called it the Geez phone - I scream Geez-ous every time I have to use it!
