While I didn't purchase this item from Amazon.com, I'd like to mention a few things. Reviews on other forums mention an "oil slick" looking thing on the surface and I think this is unavoidable as the plastic screen protector reacts electrostatically with the face of the iPhone. It moves around depending on how much and where you're putting pressure on the screen protector.

I chose a hard case and I'm wondering if that was the best choice because I don't think it offers the same shock protection as a soft/rubber/silicone case would.

The thickness of the case does make it more difficult to press the "sleep" and volume buttons on the top and side of the iPhone.

Of course, this case isn't the slimmest available, so it does add bulk to the iPhone's very slim profile.

Other than that, it seems like a reasonable case (I bought mine directly from case-mate and it was at least $10 cheaper) and will definitely protect against scratches and dings. It fits very snugly, so there's no rattling around in the case.

Damages more than it protects [Posted on 2008-11-06]
This case does protect from drops, bangs, and falls. But the case doesn't protect the phone from the case itself. Often times pocket-debris (dirt, lint, ect..) gets stuck in-between the case and the phone via the button holes. And when you take the case off the phone (by sliding the 2 halves apart) the "pocket-debris" gouges the case and the phone and ultimatley nulls the whole reason to buy a case to protect the phone in the first place.
Another reviewer mentioned the oil-slick thing that happens with the front cover. If you squeeze the sides of the case, the cover pops off the screen, but then you have to do that every time it happens. Which is often.

I would not reccomend buying this case, because it's a bit expensive for the protection it offers. If you're just looking for a case that'll protect it from dings and falls, it's a decent case, but other than that, i'd stay away.

Cannot take the naked case off!!!! [Posted on 2008-11-13]
I just received from case-mate the black naked case for my iphone 3g. I knew ahead of time about the oil-slick looking thing due to reading several reviews, so I expected it. I did find out on here that you can squeeze the sides together to pop it up to get rid of it, and I am so glad I read that, it really does work.

Here is the problem I'm having, I just put it on, then I noticed that I somehow got fingerprints on the inside of the case, so I tried to take it off, but I cannot take it off!!! I have been trying for over an hour, and the black case is sooo slick, my fingers cannot grip it, and now where it snaps in the back, it has cracked!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what to do, I have contacted case-mate about this, so I will wait to see how they respond, but I could only give it two starts due to being unable to remove it. I may come back later and edit my review depending on how case-mate responds since I did buy it directly from their site. BTW they had free shipping!

the thin plastic cover which protects the screen peels off and away from the actual case. I do not recommend this case. For the price you can certainly get better. Nice try Casemate...back to the drawing boards.
